Tom Woods is a candidate for Public Service Commission (PSC) in District 3, which includes Bozeman. On Sunday, September 20 at 6:00 pm, we will have the opportunity to hear from Tom and ask him questions in an online forum.

The Montana PSC regulates privately owned natural gas, electric, telephone, water, and sewer companies doing business in Montana. In addition, the PSC regulates intrastate railroads and certain motor carriers hauling regulated commodities and oversees natural gas pipeline safety regulations.

These are incredibly important matters of significant concern to Montana residents, not only because of the rates we pay for utilities but because of how our lives are impacted by them.

With climate change becoming increasingly apparent in our environment, with a finite water supply in the Bozeman area coupled with explosive population growth, and with the upcoming Big Sky Passenger Rail Authority seeking to establish new service through Bozeman across the state, it is of utmost importance that we have adequate representation on the PSC.

The PSC is currently comprised entirely of Republicans, who give carte blanche to private corporate interests. At this meeting, we will hear from a candidate for PSC District 3 (which includes Bozeman), Tom Woods, who has served as a member of the Montana House of Representatives from the 62nd District since 2013 and was elected as House Minority Caucus Chair in 2016.

Following Tom’s talk, we will be able to ask him questions and tell him about our interests as Democratic Socialists and Montana residents.
